Two-Tone Eight-Drawer Serpentine Dresser
This eight-drawer dresser features a contoured serpentine profile with a painted slate-blue frame and contrasting wood-grain drawer faces with framed moldings. Configured in four stacked pairs, the drawers are fitted with ornate antique brass-finished bail pulls, and the upper drawer features a black felt interior lining. Carved scroll bracket feet and detailed lattice relief work along the front stiles ground the case.
Background Note
The serpentine facade, distinguished by a gentle convex center flanked by concave curves, originated in 18th-century European Rococo cabinetry. Achieving the continuous undulating curve required specialized wood-bending and shaping techniques that became a defining characteristic of classic commodes and subsequent mid-20th-century revival furniture.
