Royal Doulton St. George Figurine
This glazed porcelain figurine depicts Saint George on horseback atop a detailed base, subduing a teal dragon with a sword. The rider is dressed in white robes bearing a red cross emblem, mounted on a rearing white horse with gold-tone accents on the tack.
Background Note
Designed by Royal Doulton in 1949, model HN 2051 depicts the patron saint of England in classic ceramic form. Royal Doulton introduced numbered "HN" figurines starting in 1913, with the letters honoring Harry Nixon, the master painter who led the company's figure painting department. The St. George model became a recognizable mid-20th-century equestrian addition to the company's prestige line.
