Vintage Mirrored Chifforobe Wardrobe
This vintage wooden chifforobe is finished in a rich dark stain and features an asymmetrical combination configuration. The left section provides four stacked drawers constructed with dovetail joinery and finished with floral ceramic knobs, set beneath an adjustable vanity mirror framed by turned spindle supports. The right section comprises a full-height wardrobe door fitted with a tall mirror panel, which opens to reveal an interior hanging rod for garments. The entire piece is elevated on turned spindle legs equipped with metal casters.
Background Note
First patented in the late nineteenth century and popularized throughout the 1910s and 1920s, the chifforobe was designed to solve storage constraints in homes built prior to standard closets. Its portmanteau name blends the French "chiffonnier" (a chest of drawers) with "wardrobe," offering a compact, all-in-one dressing station for hanging attire, storing folded linens, and morning grooming.
